Dita Von Teese brings her "The Art of the Teese Burlesque Revue" to Los Angeles on July 28.

Sizzling, sexy and sensual, Dita Von Teese celebrates burlesque in its most revealing form with her North American tour “The Art of the Teese Burlesque Revue.” Some of the most beautiful performers, including her Vontourage male dancers, will seductively take it off in a new, over-the-top production to be held at The Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles on July 28.

Von Teese has been seducing audiences since the 1990s dressing in costumes and lingerie with high heels, feathers, rhinestones, garter belts and stockings. She spoke of her love of the art form of burlesque as she continues her North America tour in Southern California.

AXS: What makes burlesque an art form?

Dita Von Teese: Burlesque was very popular in 1930s and ‘40s before the shows were closed due to new laws. Back then, it was geared toward working men as risqué entertainment. Women took their clothes off in public, which was not very common, so burlesque was considered almost illicit. This is a resurgence of the art form and it has become a modern day unique feminist movement. I would say the audiences at my shows are 80 percent women with a very strong LGTBQ presence as well.

AXS: Why call it burlesque?

DVT: A burlesque show is all about diversity and beauty, which makes it very different from mainstream sexualized media. Burlesque is about celebrating beauty in all forms in each stage of life with different ethnicities and gender-fluid ideals. Burlesque is so much more than mainstream sexual media.

AXS: Why do women enjoy your show?

DVT: Women want to come to the show because it is inspiring to them. It is about a playful sense of sensuality. It is fantasy about the art of creation. What the audiences witnesses in a burlesque show is candy-coated sexual fantasy on stage.

AXS: What do you want audiences to take from your show?

DVT: The moves and sense of burlesque can be used in real life. It is about accentuating your body and presenting it in a certain way. I have always found it gave me confidence because I was able to hide what I didn’t like and emphasize what I did like. I think this is one of the things that appeal to people now is to turn up the glamour. Anyone can capture the spirit of burlesque.

“The Art Of The Teese Burlesque Revue” variety show tour will perform at The Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles. Door open at 7:30 p.m. and show time is 8:30 p.m. on July 28. Tickets can be purchased on AXS.com.
